In a post published on his X account, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei said Araqchi has departed for Muscat to conduct nuclear negotiations with the US. He said the diplomatic engagement is being pursued with firmness and with the objective of reaching a fair, mutually acceptable, and dignified understanding on the nuclear issue.
Baqaei said past bitter experiences are fully taken into account, including earlier instances of non-compliance, the military aggression that took place in June 2025, and foreign interventions in January 2026.
The spokesman added that Iran consistently regards itself as obligated to demand the rights of the Iranian nation. At the same time, he said, Tehran bears the responsibility of not missing any opportunity to use diplomacy to secure the interests of the Iranian people and to preserve peace and stability in the region.
Baqaei also said Iran appreciates all friendly neighboring and regional countries that have played a role, with a sense of responsibility and concern, in helping shape this process. He added that Iran hopes the US side would participate in the talks with responsibility, realism, and seriousness.
Based on initial planning, the negotiations are scheduled to begin at 10:00 am local time in Muscat, corresponding to 9:30 am in Tehran.
The Iranian delegation includes Majid Takht Ravanchi, the deputy foreign minister for political affairs; Kazem Gharibabadi, the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs; Qanbari, the deputy for economic diplomacy; and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.
According to one member of the Iranian negotiating team, the focus of the talks will be exclusively on nuclear issues, and none of the media speculation regarding the inclusion of other potential topics could be confirmed.
