In comments at a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, held in Tehran on Sunday, Araqchi said the violent terrorist riots that unfolded in Iran on January 8-10, which diverted the peaceful gatherings of people and resulted in heavy damages, were clearly provoked by foreign interference.
The Iranian foreign minister said the US and the Israeli regime are directly accountable for the crimes that were committed amid the riots in Iran.
The fact that the US made the threat of military attack on Iran simultaneous with the crimes committed by the terrorist elements against the Iranian people revealed the American and Israeli intelligence and security services’ complicity with the rioters and terrorists with the purpose of upsetting security in Iran and the wider region, he added.
Araqchi also called for vigilance of all regional countries to deal responsibly with the threats posed by sinister interference in the internal affairs of nations.
For his part, Fuad Hussein hailed the perfect relations between Baghdad and Tehran, stressing that Iraq believes that security and calm in Iraq, Iran and other regional states are integrated.
Iraq will spare no effort to help protect regional peace and security, he added, rejecting any foreign interference in the domestic affairs of countries and urging commitment to the principles of the UN Charter.
The two ministers also talked about cooperation in the fight against terrorism and ensuring the security of common border.
They also discussed the regional conditions, the Zionist regime’s relentless acts of aggression against Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, as well as destabilizing trends against the Muslim nations such as Somalia and Yemen.
