Iran Demands UN Condemnation of ‘ISIS-Style’ Terror Attacks, Illegal US Meddling

Speaking by phone with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss recent regional and international developments, with a focus on riots in Iran, Araqchi described that protests began as peaceful gatherings with economic and professional demands but were turned violent through intervention by terrorist elements.

Iranian top diplomat asserted a direct role by the Israeli regime in arming and organizing armed terrorists, along with US support for them.

He pointed to interventionist statements by US officials that encouraged violence and killings to create grounds for US military intervention in Iran.

The minister stressed the international responsibility of the United States due to its illegal and destructive interventions in Iran's affairs.

Araqchi highlighted grave crimes committed against law enforcement forces and ordinary people.

These acts included the killing of children and women, burning individuals alive, attacks on hospitals and medical centers, setting fire to numerous ambulances and fire trucks, and the destruction of mosques and cultural centers.

He characterized these violent actions by foreign-backed rioters as modeled after Daesh (ISIS) terrorism.

The foreign minister called on the United Nations and the Secretary-General to condemn these crimes.

Turning to US actions at the UN, Araqchi described America's move to convene a Security Council session on Iran's internal developments as hypocritical and an attempt to evade accountability.

"The US government, which through the imposition of unjust sanctions against the Iranian nation and complicity with the Zionist regime in military aggression against Iran is responsible for the killing of thousands of Iranian citizens, and which during the recent riots has also caused the killing of hundreds of Iranians by armed terrorists, cannot cover up its crimes by holding a Security Council meeting," he stated.

Araqchi emphasized Iran's commitment to supporting the human rights of its citizens, including the right to peaceful assembly.

He also reaffirmed the government's inherent duty to protect its people and maintain public order and national security.

The minister noted that parties with a long history of systematic human rights violations and complicity with the Israeli regime in the genocide of Palestinians lack any credibility to feign concern for Iranians.

Araqchi conveyed Iran's serious expectation from the Secretary-General and the Security Council.

He urged a firm condemnation of the terrorist acts committed during the violent riots and a clear denouncement of illegal US interventions against Iran.

In response, Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the importance of all governments respecting fundamental human rights.

He rejected any interference in the internal affairs of other countries, including military interventions.

Guterres emphasized the need to respect the principles of the UN Charter, particularly the prohibition on the use or threat of force.
