Mourners in the Iranian capital attended the funeral of around 100 martyrs, including military forces and ordinary citizens, who have been killed by armed rioters during the recent violent unrest.
The funeral procession began in front of the University of Tehran as mourners carried the caskets of the martyrs, covered by the flag of Iran.
A deputy commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) unit in Tehran said these martyrs of the “national resistance” make up only a portion of the casualties of the riots, saying the identification of all martyrs requires more time.
Rahim Nade-Ali said 22 Basij members of the IRGC in Tehran have been martyred in the recent unrest.
He noted that pavilions have been set up in the street during the funeral procession to inform the public about the aspects of the crimes that the mercenaries of the US and the Zionist regime have committed in the riots.
Violent rioters favoring monarchy have vandalized public and private properties in a number of cities across Iran in the past recent days, killing dozens of ordinary people and security forces and inflicting injuries on others.
People across Iran mobilized on January 12 to denounce the riots and acts of terrorism, reaffirming their commitment to the Islamic Revolution and condemning those responsible for disrupting national order.
