One Dead, Seven Missing As Boat Carrying Migrants Capsizes in Turkey

The incident occurred 40 kilometers from the small Greek island of Chrysi, a Turkish coast guard official stated to Reuters. Two individuals were rescued from the sinking vessel.
This is not the first migrant boat tragedy in the Aegean Sea this year. On November 16th, a Greek coast guard official reported 18 deaths in the capsizing of a migrant boat off the coast of Chrysi.
Turkish authorities previously reported on November 2nd the discovery of 14 bodies of undocumented migrants aboard an inflatable boat in the Aegean Sea near Bodrum, in southwestern Turkey.
Local authorities, following reports by Turkish media of seven fatalities, subsequently announced the rescue of two migrants and the discovery of 14 deceased individuals.
According to Angaben from Walking Borders, approximately 9,747 people attempted to migrate to Europe in 2024.
The ongoing migration crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean has spurred numerous tragedies, highlighting the perilous conditions migrants face in their perilous journeys.
