Iran Urges UN, OIC to Hold Israel Accountable for Crimes in Lebanon

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry condemned the continuation of the Zionist regime’s military aggression against Lebanon, including its recent brutal attacks on residential areas in southern Lebanon that have killed and wounded dozens of Lebanese citizens, including women and children.

The ministry praised the “resistance and steadfastness” of the Lebanese people in the face of the expansionism and occupation of the “child-killing Israeli regime,” and reaffirmed Iran’s support for Lebanon in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement said the Zionist regime’s brutal attacks on Lebanon and its occupation of parts of the Arab country, accompanied by the commission of the most serious war crimes, have taken place under the overt support of the United States. Therefore, it said, the US regime is “the main partner in the crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon” and must be held accountable.

The Foreign Ministry also criticized the inaction of the UN Security Council toward the Israeli regime’s aggressive actions, stressing that such actions are undoubtedly a serious threat to regional and global peace and security.

According to the statement, the Security Council’s failure to act has not only undermined the credibility and standing of the UN but has also emboldened the Israeli regime to commit further crimes and expand the scope of its warmongering.

“The United Nations, its secretary-general and all member states are obligated to take the necessary measures to stop the aggressive attacks and war crimes of the Zionist regime,” the ministry said.

It also called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take serious action and use all of its capacities to halt the Israeli regime’s crimes and ensure that the perpetrators are “held accountable and punished.”

The Foreign Ministry reiterated that the international community and relevant international institutions cannot remain inactive in the face of the Zionist regime’s continued attacks on Lebanon, emphasizing the need for concrete action to stop the aggression and bring those responsible for war crimes to justice.
