Asked by Tasnim about the recent comments from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari regarding Doha’s contacts with Tehran and Washington, Baqaei said Iran has always been appreciative of the concern and good offices of friendly countries seeking to help reduce tensions in the region.

Baqaei also referred to a telephone conversation a few days earlier between Iran’s foreign minister and his Qatari counterpart, noting that the two sides discussed the bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments during the call.

In remarks at a news conference on Tuesday, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman commented on Doha’s diplomatic efforts regarding current developments.

Al-Ansari said Qatar is maintaining contacts with Tehran and Washington and backs all forms of dialogue intended to avert an increase in tensions.

He stressed that there is still an opportunity for diplomatic and political solutions concerning Iran.
