Israeli Strikes Kill Palestinian Couple in Gaza City As Attacks Spread across Strip

A Palestinian man and his wife were killed in an Israeli strike on a residential apartment near al-Shifa Hospital in western Gaza City, sources told Al Jazeera.

Turkiye’s Anadolu news agency separately reported that four people were wounded in the same attack, which was carried out by an Israeli helicopter.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian was killed in an Israeli bombing in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, southeast of Gaza City, medical sources told Al Jazeera.

In southern Gaza, five people, including a child, were wounded by Israeli gunfire in Khan Younis, where Israeli military vehicles struck homes earlier in the morning, according to medical sources.

Reports also indicated a surge in Israeli attacks overnight and into the early hours of the morning across several parts of the territory, with Gaza City among the main targets.

Residents described the destruction caused by the strike near al-Shifa Hospital, while footage from Khan Younis showed Israeli tanks and military cranes opening fire on a residential building near the demarcation line.

Israeli drones and fighter jets were also active over central Gaza, while explosions continued to be heard in eastern areas where Israeli forces are stationed.

The repeated attacks on residential buildings and the killing of civilians have added to the devastation faced by Palestinians, amid mounting international scrutiny of the Israeli regime’s military campaign and the genocide in Gaza.

Separately, Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, condemned what she described as crimes committed by the Israeli army in Gaza.

Albanese was responding to a purported video posted on X that reportedly shows a sniper shooting a Palestinian man attempting to retrieve the body of his child, who had allegedly been killed by the same sniper.

The video reportedly includes audio of the attacker speaking in Hebrew.

“No words. And many will only believe the crimes committed in Gaza when the snipers get on camera – hidden face, altered voice – to confess their atrocities,” Albanese wrote.
