In a message issued on Monday, Pezeshkian congratulated the Iranian people, the wrestlers, coaches, technical staff and all those involved in the sport, describing the victory as a testament to Iran’s considerable sporting potential.
He said the freestyle team’s triumph, following Iran’s U23 Greco-Roman wrestling team’s world title, demonstrated that the country’s human resources, athletic talent and sportsmanship, combined with sustained effort, professional coaching and adequate support, could produce outstanding results on the international stage.
The president also expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to the achievements and voiced hope that stronger sports infrastructure and greater support for young athletes would pave the way for further international victories.
Iran’s U23 freestyle wrestling team clinched the world title in Las Vegas with nine medals, including four gold, one silver and four bronze, earning 180 points. Russia finished second with 171 points, followed by the US with 104.
The victory came after Iran’s U23 Greco-Roman wrestling team also claimed the world championship.
Earlier on Monday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei also congratulated the freestyle team on its world title, praising the wrestlers, coaches and officials for their efforts.
In his message, the Leader said the nine-medal haul had brought joy and pride to the Iranian nation, describing the achievement, alongside the Greco-Roman team’s championship, as the result of careful planning, effective management and the tireless efforts of officials, dedicated coaches and Iran’s young athletes. He extended his congratulations to the champions and the Iranian people.
