Governor of West Azarbaijan Province Reza Rahmani said the number of outbound transit trucks crossing through Bazargan has risen to 320 per day after recent talks with Turkish minister of trade and the head of Turkey's Customs Administration during the inauguration of the Gurbulak customs post.

He said the increase was achieved following bilateral coordination aimed at improving border operations and facilitating cross-border transit.

Rahmani added that provincial authorities are targeting an increase to 500 trucks per day, saying the goal would reduce waiting times for freight vehicles while further strengthening Bazargan's position as Iran's principal land gateway to Europe.

The latest increase in freight traffic comes as Iran and Turkey continue efforts to expand cross-border trade and transit links.

In April, the two countries inaugurated the new Gurbulak customs post on the Turkish side of the border opposite the Bazargan terminal, a project expected to enhance customs efficiency and increase transit capacity at one of Iran's busiest commercial gateways to Europe.

The neighbors have also reached preliminary agreements to open the Kuzehrash border crossing near Salmas in Iran's West Azarbaijan Province. The planned crossing, which will become the fourth official land border between Iran and Turkey, is intended to facilitate trade and support the two countries' long-term objective of expanding bilateral commerce.
